UAE’s Artificial intelligence office and Google launch AI Majlis Series

The UAE’s Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Working Applications Office and Google have established the AI Majlis Series – a quarterly gathering which brings together government authorities, professors, and businesses to deliberate on AI laws and regulations.

The opening of the AI Majlis meeting discussed the idea of Responsible Innovation with Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications, being joined by Karan Bhatia, Global Head of Public Policy and Government Relations at Google, being moderated by Becky Anderson, Anchor and Managing Editor of CNN in Abu Dhabi. Leaders and decision makers in various industries – including those in tourism, media and publishing, retail, and telecom – were invited to the session.

Omar Al Olama, the UAE’s Minister of State of Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications, celebrated the success achieved in the field of digital transformation under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE as well as Ruler of Dubai. The UAE has created a model of quick responsiveness, outstanding performance and competitive strength across many areas, which demonstrates its proactive attitude in embracing an inclusive strategy for the flourishing sector of digital transformation. In addition, the UAE encourages responsible conduct in connection to this area of work and encourages secure tech advancement.

Al Olama highlighted that the AI Majlis works as a forum for transparent and honest talks between the administration and the private sector. Through these dialogues, it encourages sharing of problems and prospects so to form stronger alliances and create novel ideas to progress in areas such as digital economy, AI and other technologies of the future. The UAE comprehends the significance of sharing practices and methods for more efficient utilisation, leading to an accelerated and wide scale digital transformation.

Karan Bhatia, the head of Public Policy and Government Relations at Google, declared that implementing Artificial Intelligence in a responsible way should be a combined effort between industry workers, scientist, governments, and the public. He expressed his gratification at collaborating with the UAE’s Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications Office and suggested that the AI Majlis series can be a model for successful public-private sector discourse on regulating AI sensibly.

Upcoming AI Majlis discussions will include international industry experts that will address key areas for the UAE such as future of work, sustainability and education. The AI Majlis on AI and sustainability will take place during COP28 this November.

A series of talks labeled AI Majlis is scheduled in the near future with multiple international specialists in attendance to talk on important facets of the UAE such as the future of work, sustainability, and education. One of these sessions centered on AI and sustainability is anticipated to transpire at the COP28 event in November.
