Sogou founder joins ChatGPT race with new AI venture

On April 10, Wang Xiaochuan, founder of search engine operator Sogou, announced the establishment of a new AI venture called Baichuan Zhineng.

The startup aims to develop and provide general artificial intelligence services in search, education, and healthcare, leveraging breakthroughs in language AI.

According to Wang’s statement on the Twitter-like platform Weibo, his AI startup has already started training a large model with 50 billion parameters, which is making “smooth progress.”

The company has set its sights on “releasing the best large model and disruptive products in China by the end of the year,” he added.

Baichuan Zhineng has secured $50 million in startup funding and plans to expand its team to 50 people by the end of this month, according to the statement. [Wang Xiaochuan’s statement, in Chinese]
